Beautiful means natural simplicity

Bogdan Ciocoiu is a name that we can find this year too, between the winners of the National Avant-garde Furniture Design competition, the “Creation” stage. He is studying at the University “George Enescu”, Iaşi, and last year he was awarded with honorable mention for his multifunctional chaise-longue. This year his creation and his collaboration to other two products brought him the third prize, and other 2 honorable mentions.
He is always trying to create a makeable product. His concept is that if a designer succeeds to obtain a final product that remains 60% unmodified by the engineer that is a successful product. Many of his projects are based on elements from the nature. Ecological refers mostly to the technology, and not to the materials, and the life cycle of the products has to end with the possibility of recycling. As regards the aesthetics and the functionality, everything has to be thought in a way to represent the essence of the product. The Romanian furniture industry has big potential, still unexplored, as regards the new materials. He thinks that in 10 years everything will be changed; already there are companies offering different materials that we are used to, but changing the aspect of the products depends by the manufacturers and the designers. If we wish to have a more “green” life, the solution is not the wood, but the new materials destined to replace it. In his opinion the design is a way to promote Romania; but this needs personal effort, ambition and correct way of thinking.
